Katharine Saunders is a Search Angel and Assistant Team Lead for Research and is the third generation of women in her family to research her own family lines. Before the days of the internet, her grandmother would hand Katharine’s mother a stack of index cards with names to search for in the census records when they would go through microfilm records on the weekends. This love of family research was passed down and now Katharine and her mother research their tree together.
A former middle school teacher, Katharine has a passion for education and set out to learn as much as she could about genealogy research and DNA. To date, Katharine holds a certificate from the Boston University Genealogical Research program and has taken many workshops and classes, including Practical Genetic Genealogy with Blaine Bettinger. Katharine is also working on a specialization in German records and has taken several courses to that end as well. Her list of future classes is a mile long!
After learning about how genetic genealogy can be used to solve cases of misattributed and unknown parentage, Katharine knew she had to put her knowledge and skills to use to helping others. She is a dedicated and relentless Search Angel who believes everyone has the right to know their truth and that no one should have to pay for those answers. She is proud to be a part of DNAngels.
When not researching, Katharine spends most of her time chasing after her kids and dogs. She also enjoys camping, photography, and looking for the next genealogy book to add to her shelves.
