Monia Pezzi is a Genetic Genealogist. Her special skill with DNAngels is identifing parents for adoptees. When she isn’t working on identifing biological parents, she serves as an Accounts Payable Specialist for a large nonprofit and does payroll for her son-in-law’s construction company. She is a member of the Clan McBean, and served as the editor of their newsletter for several years.
Her passion for genealogy started as a young child when her father got a book about their family history where she read stories of her direct ancestors. In adulthood she enthusiastically made herself the family historian and kept track of births, marriages and deaths in not only her own family, but of her children’s paternal sides of the family as well and built trees as far back as the 1600s. She has been able to solve the mystery of her adopted late husband’s biological family, identifing his birth mother before the advent of DNA testing, and using her children’s DNA, found his biological father, too. Monia continued to help family, friends, and as word spread, many more people, too, which led her to volunteer with DNAngels.
Monia is a single mom of four grown children, living in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in northern California. In her spare time, she breeds Australian Shepherds, quilts, and loves to read. Monia’s motivation for being a Search Angel is to help people and she loves doing it. She has long felt this way about researching family trees, even before DNA. For her, since DNA, it has become more of an addiction. She feels that it is like solving puzzles.
