Milly grew up knowing her family’s history…or so she thought. In the early 1900s, her great-great paternal grandmother was one of the first in her family to emigrate to the United States. Milly loved chatting with her grandmother, receiving a firsthand account from this direct ancestor. Anxious to document this historical family information for future generations, Milly began composing a detailed account of her family history in 2015.
Hoping to gather more detailed information, Milly decided to take a home DNA test. Upon receiving the results, she was surprised and pleased to discover that her DNA is part Puerto Rican; however, she also found that some of her listed relations were unknown to her. She discussed her findings with several family members and asked them to take DNA tests, which ultimately resulted in discovering that multiple family members were NPEs.
Intrigued by the puzzle presented to her, Milly began piecing together tree branches and centimorgans. Before long, she contacted DNAngels and asked us to help verify her findings. The complex puzzle quickly revealed a total of seven (7) NPE family members. At that point, Milly became even more determined to help her relatives find their biological answers.
Currently, Milly serves as a Search Angel and an Executive Assistant to Laura Leslie, scouring records to find documentation of ancestors. She loves finding photos, newspaper articles, stories, and contact information about newfound family members for her clients, which often provides links to their previously unknown family members. Even though Milly is not personally an NPE, her experiences with helping her family made her realize the healing power that biological truth brings to NPEs, adoptees, and donor conceived individuals.
DNAngels is grateful to have such a dedicated and empathetic person to help our clients in need. When she isn’t working with DNAngels, Milly runs a small business and enjoys crocheting, crafting, reading, writing poetry and spending time outdoors.
