Kat C. is Case Manager, Search Angel, and Editor of the Newsletter. Kat’s interest in genealogy began when she was a child. She has a vivid memory of her mom typing out a family tree for her mother’s side of the family on her typewriter. She still has a copy of that family tree today.
Then one day, about 20 years ago or so, Kat made an account on Ancestry and her obsession with genealogy began. The more she learned about researching, the easier it became. And Kat loves researching! Kat’s love of research blossomed into a love of history. While research provided names and places, history added the stories that brought the names and places to life.
Many years later Kat took a DNA test, just to help her to break through brick walls on research and to add to other lines in her tree. She didn’t expect she would find anything unusual or surprising, but she was wrong! Kat began learning about how to use the DNA results before they even came back and that was definitely a good thing. She found a half-sister! Having been an only child her whole life, this was truly wonderful surprise. She continued working with DNA and honing her skills, and soon began offering to help others as well.
Kat is a mother, a grandma, and a bit of a crazy cat lady. She only has two cats but they both know they are loved and are very happy. Of course, the one of them who is usually by her side, might get a little sick of hearing about the trees she is working on. When she isn’t working with DNA, she loves cooking and expresses her love of different cultures through food.
To Kat, knowing about your family is very important, and she loves helping others so they can have their own history and know who came before them.
