Desiree Hovland is one of our West Coast angels who has never heard of an umbrella and loves the Seahawks. During the day she is a social worker in child welfare. Her expertise is child safety and permanency. Her passion is to see children, in the foster care system, achieve permanency thru: adoption, third party custody or returning to their biological parent(s). In Desiree’s career she continually assesses/investigates and it has been an asset to her to role as an Angel.
Her enjoyment for genealogy began when her adoptee father had the desire to search for his biological family. He located his biological mother over 20 years ago; when DNA results didn’t exist. Desiree had a desire to locate her paternal grandfather but her Filipino roots made it difficult, but she’s persistent.
Desiree and her father reached out to DNAngels in November 2020, during the search a close match popped up allowing the case to be solved. She has solved other family members cases, and wishes to give others the gift of closure. She wants to sharpen her genealogy knowledge and will be attending Roots Tech this year. She is a clear example of once you’re a DNAngel’s client you will always be a part of the family.
Desiree has been married for over 20 years and has a 17-year-old son. She lives in Washington State in the Key Peninsula area. She enjoys day hikes, traveling around the world, and spending time with her family. On Sunday’s you will find her at church and if it’s fall watching football afterwards. Oh… and sometimes Monday and Thursday nights too.
