When Padgette was a little girl, she loved hearing her parents share stories about their respective childhoods and families. She always knew her mother, Deliliah, had been raised by her grandmother. Deliliah never knew the identity of her biological father, but this did not stop her from being the most loving mother a girl could ever have.
Even though both of Padgette’s parents have since passed away, she never stopped wondering who her mystery grandfather could be. The advent of home DNA tests provided Padgette with a new avenue for searching for clues to her grandfather’s identity, and when the results arrived, she was thrilled to find so many new family members among her list of DNA matches. Her first conversation with a recently discovered cousin took place in September 2019, and soon afterward, Padgette discovered the identity of her grandfather. She was immediately embraced by her Owens family and her mother’s lifelong mystery was finally solved.
During her search, Padgette joined a few Facebook support groups focused on individuals who are searching for their biological families. Through this experience, she became acutely aware of the pain that many adoptees and NPEs endure while searching for their biological parent(s). She was shocked to find many NPEs and adoptees, upon their discoveries, are confronted with lies from family members and feelings of isolation. Recalling the healing power she had experienced after solving her own family mystery, Padgette wanted to help others to attain the same sense of closure. She joined our team as an Intake Specialist and now helps applicants begin their journey by providing a sense of hope and community. Simply put, she never wants anyone to feel alone.
Padgette continues to feel a sense of healing by helping others with their personal journeys, and she has become an invaluable asset to the DNAngels organization.
Her greatest loves in life are her husband, her three children and her grandson. Padgette is a full-time realtor who enjoys traveling, cooking, family time, bible study groups and flipping houses among many other interests.
